Combination And Sequential Chemotherapy Effective For Metastatic Breast Cancer

chemotherapy drugsWhether to use several chemotherapy drugs at once or take single agents sequentially for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer was quite controversial issue.

According to recent reports published online in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, both sequential and combination use of chemotherapy drugs for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer are viable options. However, the choice should be made based on several other factors like stage of cancer and patients’ disease related factors.

“Ultimately, the choice between combination and sequential systemic therapy for metastatic breast cancer must involve an open discussion of potential side effects and logistical requirements with patients, taking into consideration the cost and availability of chemotherapeutic agents in local clinical practice settings,” the authors write.
