Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to Treat Breast Cancer

Cytotoxic chemotherapy is one of the chemotherapeutic methods that affect the cancerous cells. Cytotoxic agents can actively separate your body’s cells, which again treat the cancerous cells. It is recognized as one of the most important methods of cancer treatments in the world.

The therapy is established as one of the greatest therapeutic modalities in breast cancer. Various types of cytotoxic agents such as antimetabolites, cytotoxic antibiotics and alkylating agents are used for treating breast cancer.

Cytotoxic chemotherapy agents can also be used in treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and the suppression of transplant rejections. But, this therapy can not be used in some cases such as advanced breast cancer.

When cytotoxic chemotherapy is used along with radiation therapy, cytotoxic agents affect all the actively dividing cells in your body, i.e. both healthy and cancerous cells. It leads to unpleasant side effects such as vomiting, nausea, alopecia, and rarely causes cardiotoxicity and neutropenia.
