Post Treatment Cancer Pain May Predict Survival In Cancer Patients

neck painResearchers have found that post treatment pain level in head and neck cancer patients may help to predict chances of patient survival with cancer.

It was found that people with higher levels of post treatment pain appear to have lower survival rates.

U.S. researchers conducted a study including 339 cancer patients and studied the information about their health and quality of life at 3 to 12 months later the diagnosis of cancer.

“Pain was associated with age, general physical and mental health conditions, depressive symptoms, survival rate and recurrence within the first year,” wrote Dr. Joseph Scharpf and colleagues at the University of Iowa.
