Sometimes you may be predisposed to getting a certain disease because of your genetics.

Even though you may be predisposed, this does not mean that you will actually contract the disease.

Cervical cancer is a disease that you, yourself, may be able to prevent. Knowing what to avoid will be crucial in warding off this awful disease. You will be able to get all the information you need from your physician, or health care provider.

Pap test for Prevention

One of the best ways to detect if you have any bad cells, which could turn into cancer, is to have regular pelvic exams.

Your physician will perform a pap test to check for these bad cells, and for anything else that does not look right. There is no risk to your body from having a pap test, and it could save your life.

You will not want to have this test while you are on your menstrual period. Waiting a couple of weeks after you finish your period is best.

Tell your physician if you have had bad cells in the past, or if you have had any treatments for any bad cells.

Stop Smoking Tobacco

You will have twice the chance of contracting cervical cancer if you are using tobacco products, than if you were not. If you have been using these tobacco products for a long time you will still be able to reduce your risk by stopping.

It is a good idea, if you are going to have sex, to have safe sex. The human papillomavirus is an infection that you could get, and it can lead to cervical cancer.

If you have sex with many partners, it will also increase your risk for cervical cancer. Also, having sex at a young age, before you are sixteen, will put you at a greater risk.

Gardasil is an effective vaccine that will prevent some of the infections brought on by the human papilloma virus, which can cause cervical cancer.

Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables

You could be at an increased risk for cervical cancer if you do not eat the right foods. Fruits and vegetables contain many vitamins and minerals that are essential for overall health.

It is a proven fact that if you eat a diet that is lacking in these two; you are at a greater risk for cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is not something that you would want to deal with, and chances are that you will not have to, if you take certain precautions.
