Ductal Breast Cancer Prevention Techniques

Cancers that originate because of multiplication of tumor cells in the milk ducts of females are termed as ductal breast cancer. This is a very common type of cancer affecting a large number of women around the world.

There are techniques invented which can prevent the spread of the tumor cells, but they highly depend on the stage of ductal breast cancer. This type of cancer comes in two types: the invasive ductal breast cancer and the non invasive ductal breast cancer.

The former includes abnormal multiplication of cells in the breast tissue while the latter is the type that only affected one particular area of the breast.

It is highly recommended that all the ladies crossing the age of 35-40 years should undergo a mammography test to ensure that they are safe from ductal breast cancer.

Normally the caution age limit is 50-60 but due to early menopausal rates, tests are now recommended at earlier ages.

In many cases, the estrogen hormone is the one which is responsible for breast cancer. Hence SERM drugs are used to prevent unwanted estrogen, which can affect breast tissues. This method is widely used for prevention of ductal breast cancer.

There are various other techniques to lessen the risk of ductal breast cancer in women. For example, if you are diagnosed with a stage zero that is, initial stage carcinoma, it is advised to take the drug tamoxifen which helps to restrict the non invasive ductal breast cancer to becoming an invasive one.

There are no solid proofs of techniques that can completely eradicate the occurrence of ductal breast cancer in females. However, you can help prevent it by getting yourself tested as early as possible.

Pay careful attention

Nobody knows your body better than you. Why wait for your next visit to your doctor when you can run a test on yourself at home? A simple breast examination can already help you detect whether you’re in danger of having ductal breast cancer.

Perform a thorough examination of your breasts by using your fingers. If you noticed having lumps in your breast or in areas surrounding them, you immediately refer it to your doctor.

Once your doctor confirmed your suspicions, you will be asked to undergo an ultrasound or mammogram to find out the exact location of these tumors. The doctor will also conduct a biopsy by taking a tissue sample to check whether it’s benign or malignant.

Treatment options for ductal breast cancer

If you’re diagnosed of having ductal breast cancer, you have to undergo treatments. You can have the tumor removed while it is still small. In cases wherein the cancer cells have spread, your doctor will recommend mastectomy.

The whole breast will have to be removed to prevent cancer cells from affecting other vital organs. Chemotherapy is also a popular treatment to consider.

After undergoing surgery, it is always recommended to get yourself checked every year and a half or according to the time limit your surgeon tells you. Close monitoring can help avoid the recurrence of these tumor cells.
