HPV Virus May Improve Survival In Head And Neck Cancer Patients

HIV virusAccording to U.S. researchers, HPV (human papilloma virus) may help in the treatment of head and neck cancer.

They also explained why black Americans, who have far less HPV infections than whites, have very poor chances of survival with neck and head cancer.

The senior study author, director of the University of Maryland’s cancer center and a professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Kevin Cullen, said,” currently there is no consensus on why whites have less squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck than blacks.

However, this is the first clue that it may be biologic rather than related to issues of access, insurance or provider attitudes”.
