Hodgkin’s lymphoma occurs in the lymphatic system. Less than 1% than other cancers is accounted for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Some of the risk factors by which you are affected mostly are:
- Sex or age: Hodgkin lymphoma occurs mostly in men than women. This is caused if you are between 15 to 34 or over 55 years.
- Viruses: Epstein-Barr virus (infectious agent) is responsible for this disease.
- Family history: Your sisters and brothers are mostly affected with this disease with family history.
Some symptoms of Hodgkin lymphoma are
- Sweat during night
- Itchy skin
- Unexplained weight loss
- Swelling in the under arm, groin and lymph nodes in the neck are painless
- Unexplained recurrent fever
These symptoms are not sure signs of this disease.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) – To get the detailed pictures of the affected areas in your body, the powerful magnet is linked to computer.
Biopsy is used to diagnose the disease. The sample tissue of affected area from lymphatic tissue is removed and checked for cancerous cells under microscope.
The treatment is given when these cancerous cells are found by biopsy. They include radiation therapy and chemotherapy, which are common, but peripheral stem transplantation and bone-marrow transplantation and biological therapy are studied in clinical traits.
Radiation therapy is used by radiations of high energy coming externally by a machine to kill the cancer cells. Radiation therapy along with chemotherapy is given based on the stages. It is done in hospital.
The side effects when neck and chest are treated are difficulty in swallowing, dry and sore throat. When the abdomen is treated, the side effects are discomfort in urination, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Proper diet and medicines can relieve the pain.
Chemotherapy is done by several combinations of drugs. Some times, in combination with radiotherapy is given. You can use the drugs to kill the cancer cells. The treatment is given in circles i.e., treatment followed by another treatment after recovery.
The anti-cancer drugs are given as injection into the veins or orally. The side effects are loss of appetite, hair loss, lip and mouth sores, vomiting and nausea.
Hodgkin’s lymphoma can be treated by radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
