Uterine Cancer Symptoms

Abnormal bleeding after menopause is one of the most common uterine cancer symptoms.

The most common type of gynecologic cancer is the uterine cancer. This originates in female reproductive system.

It develops in the body of the uterus, or womb, which is a hollow organ located in the lower abdomen.

Causes of Uterine Cancer

Various causes are said to be associated with the development of uterine. According to the statistics the uterine cancer occurs most commonly in women between age 55 and 70. This disease accounts for about 6 percent of all cancers in women. Women with certain risk factors are said to be more susceptible for developing this disease than women without the risk factors.

For example obese women, women who have few or no children, women who began menstruating at a young age, those who had a late menopause, and women of high socioeconomic status are at increased risk of developing this disease.

The other risk factors for showing uterine cancer symptoms are hormones, women who take estrogens are found to be at high risk than those women who do not. Some women who have menopausal symptoms and who take certain therapies for treating them are at high risk especially the women taking estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) are said to be at two to eight time’s greater risk of developing this cancer.

The risk depends on since how long and how much dose of estrogens is taken by a women. Of course women who have already had their uterus removed and still under estrogen replacement therapy are at no risk for developing this cancer. Recent research and studies say that in the estrogen replacement therapy a combination of estrogen and the progesterone may help to decrease the risk.

All women under the above mentioned treatment (Uterine Cancer Treatment) are supposed to have regular screening tests for uterine cancer symptoms in order to avoid any further complications and be aware of the disease developments if any. The first and foremost sign should be unusual bleeding which should be brought to the immediate notice of the doctor.

Women who use birth pills a combination of progesterone and estrogen are at decreased risk than women who do not use the birth control pills or who use other birth pills rather than this combination. Longer the use of pills longer the protection is the analysis.

Common Uterine Cancer Symptoms or Uterine Cancer signs

The uterine cancer can be treated well if detected early. The uterine cancer symptoms are summarized as follows:

  • One of the most common uterine cancer symptoms or uterine cancer signs is the abnormal bleeding after menopause.
  • Bleeding may begin as a watery, blood-streaked discharge forming a uterine cancer symptom.
  • In the later stage the uterine cancer symptom may be that the discharge may contain more blood.

Keep in mind that not always abnormal bleeding is a sign of cancer. However this for sure needs medical attention and a doctor should be consulted as this uterine cancer symptom may or may not be the disease specific.  As early diagnosis is very important for uterine cancer any gynecologic problem should be reported.

Also it is important to understand that uterine cancer does not often occur before menopause, but uterine cancer does occur around the time menopause begins. So the reappearance of bleeding after the menopause should not be considered as a part of the condition instead it should be checked by a doctor.
