Recent research has found that a common sexually transmitted infection, trichomoniasis, may increase risk of aggressive prostate cancer in men.
Jennifer Stark of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and colleagues conducted a new study including 673 men with prostate cancer.
It was found that risk of advanced prostate cancer is more in individuals with STD infection than those with prostate cancer, researchers reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Researchers said that further studies are needed to confirm the results. But if the findings hold up, it would offer a new way to prevent prostate cancer risk.
